The Old is Gone, the New Has Come

HAPPY NEW YEAR to you and yours!

December 2017 is a month that – at least for our family – will live in infamy.  While I had hoped to be able to post Christmas fun and family updates, instead I felt quite knocked down and dragged about by a normally celebratory month.

Starting in November, we entered the process of refinancing our house.  What began as a simple process, turned into multiple inspections and necessary (and of course, costly) repairs and updates.   As of now, we are just in the sit and wait part of the process – for which I am quite grateful!

We also began basketball season for 2 of our kids – and what a crazy schedule that inflicted.  Kids are having fun and getting better and now that games are in full swing, we are enjoying our family time together.

December brings my husband’s and my birthdays, and we also celebrated our 14th anniversary!  If you want to know how old I am, just ask my son – he will gladly tell you!

Unfortunately, in the midst of these celebrations, we also experienced loss and fear.  My much-loved, mischievous uncle Terry passed away unexpectedly.  I wasn’t able to attend his services, but shared in the laughter of stories told in remembrance of him.  At this same time, another family member had a cancer scare – and it was all more than I could really handle, quite frankly.  The cancer scare turned out to be Kitten Scratch Fever and required a hospital stay and surgery – and recuperation is finally under way…

And winter arrived with a bang just in time for a white Christmas!  We have had several inches of snow, followed by FRIGID temperatures with wind chills that have forced us all to stay in and bundle up.  We have weathered some sniffles and a couple of us are fighting the winter coughs right now.  This is by far and away SO MUCH BETTER than last year at this time…

I took some time in December to review some systems I used in 2017.  Some of them worked, and some of them didn’t.  I had a few profound epiphanies, in fact, and took some time to process them and started setting up some new systems and accountability processes to make good changes in the coming year!

I am quite excited about that!  With a new planner (from my dear friend, Shelly – who gifted me a Daphne’s Diary 2018 Journal), and a bullet journal system in place, I feel like I am facing the days with intention and purpose and have established some goals (not just a list of ideas) that I am already working towards.  I have chosen my Word for 2018 and it is what has centralized my focus entirely!

I will share more about that in my next post.  I did want to pop in and wish you all a very Happy New Year, and I look forward to hearing from you!
